Question 2. [ 9 marks ] [Chapter 7] New Zealand will celebrate Matariki as a public holiday from 24 June 2022. The calendar date for the Matariki public holiday will shift each year to align with the maramataka (Maori lunar calendar). In June 2021, as part of their regular polling of New Zealanders' opinions about current issues, Research New Zealand asked a random sample of 1029 adult New Zealanders to rate the significance to them of New Zealand's public holidays. The results are summarised in the table below: Public holiday/'s Important Neutral Not important o me to me Christmas (includes Christmas Day and Boxing Day) 75% 18% ANZAC Day 74% 18% 8% New Year (includes New Year's Day and Day After) 67%% 22% 11% Easter (includes Good Friday and Easter Monday) 60% 25% 15% Waitangi Day 52% 29% 19% Labour Day 51% 33% 16% Regional Anniversary Day 49% 33% 18% Matariki (from next year) 43% 32% 25% Queen's Birthday 40% 37% 23% (a) State the sampling situation for analysing the difference between the estimated proportion of adult New Zealanders who, in June 2021, rated Christmas as important to them and the estimated proportion of adult New Zealanders who, in June 2021, rated New Year as important to them. [ 1 mark ] (b) Previously, in July 2007, Research New Zealand asked a random sample of 1,019 adult New Zealanders to rate the significance to them of New Zealand's public holidays and 43% of them rated Waitangi Day as important to them. Carry out a f-test to investigate whether there is a difference between the underlying proportion of adult New Zealanders who, in June 2021, rated Waitangi Day as important to them and the underlying proportion of adult New Zealanders who, in July 2007, rated Waitangi Day as important to them. [ & marks ] Notes: (i) You must clearly show that you have followed the "Step-by-Step Guide to Performing a Hypothesis Test by Hand" given in the Lecture Workbook, Page 12, Chapter 7. (ii) At Steps 5 and 8, it is necessary to use the f-procedures tool on Canvas (Assignments > Assignment 3) to determine the standard error and the f-multiplier. (iii) At Step 6, it is necessary to use the -procedures tool on Canvas to determine the P-value. (iv) Refer to the instructions on Page 1 of this assignment: "Hypothesis tests in this assignment"
