Question 2 We are going to calculate the annual cost of space heating for the average household if
(a) All the heating is done using electricity, and
(b) All the heating is done using natural gas
We will use the following information:
1. Average annual total energy consumption per household is shown in Figure 1 below
2. A pie chart in the slides of Lecture 4, The Energy Landscape, shows what percentage of the residential energy consumption goes to space heating
3. Also in these slides there is a graph comparing the residential cost of different energy sources, including electricity and natural gas (use the graph that shows yearly averages, not the seasonal variations)
Use the latest values from the graphs (the right-most point). The numbers can be read approximately; no need to use a ruler or any other means of getting the most precise possible values. (Of course, this means you should not give an answer that is more precise than the input numbers that you used. This would be considered a mistake.
