Question 3: How many kilograms of food will our worm farm consume in the rst year? How much will they consume per day once carrying capacity is reached? (Show your work. Try to be neat.) Note: Worms can consume half of their body weight per day. The average weight of 0.25 grams per worm, we will use this to calculate overall weight. We will assume the population doubles discretely at the end of each intewal period (every 3 months). Conversion: 1000 grams = 1 kilogram; 1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds (for those of you who like to think in the English system) Example: If Initial Population = 1000 worms, multiply 1000 by 0.25 grams, which equals 250 grams of food consumed Next, divide 250 grams by two to get 125 grams of food per day. Multiply that by 90 days for a total of 11250 grams, or 11.25 Kg of food consumed in three months. Divide kilograms by 2.2 to get pounds. The following chart can be typed and calculated in Excel. Population Kg Consumed Pounds Consumed After 3 months: After 6 months
