Question 3: In the Collisions in Two Dimensions lab, you won't be using the method of Question 2 to add momenta. Rather, y0u'll add vectors graphically. Here's a warm-up. The top arrow represents the velocity of Particle 1. Ifthe mass of Particle 1 happens to be one unit, then its momentum, p = mv, is an arrow of the same direction and length as the velocity. The bottom arrow represents the velocity of Particle 2. Given that its mass is 0.25 units, sketch in an arrow representing the momentum vector of this particle. 3 V1 ) V2 Now add your Particle 2 momentum vector to the Particle 1 momentum/velocity vector by simply redrawing your new vector with the same length and direction, but with its tail at the head of the Particle 1 momentum/velocity vector V1. Then sketch in the total: an arrow stretching from the tail of V1 to the head of your redrawn Particle 2 momentum vector. (Again, this is a graphical method. Never should you measure an angle, for you'll never need one. All you need be able to do is draw a new arrow parallel to a previous one.) CTD 9HA October 19, 2015 CTD - 1
