Question 3 Mr. Ramu a sole trader having a retail store has received his bank statements for the month of June 2021. The balance at the bank amounted to RM7,585 whereas his own cash book showed a balance of RM7,500. His accounts officer has investigated the matter, and discovered the following discrepancies: 1. There were two unpresented cheques : Cheque No: 4665 RM 320 Cheque No: 4680 RM 666 2. Included on the bank statement was a dishonoured cheque received from one of the customer amounting to RM 570. 3. Cheque 4682 was correctly recorded on the bank statement for RM520 but incorrectly recorded in the cashbook as RM250. 4. A deposit of RM556 had not yet been recorded by the bank. 5. There was a direct credit of RM 440 to the account by one of the customer, it is shown in the bank statement and not in the cash book. 6. There is an interest received on deposits shown in the bank statement amounting to RM 90 7. The bank statement showed service charged of RM35. Required: (b) Prepare adjusted cash book as at 30th June 2021 (8 marks) Prepare a bank reconciliation statement as at 30th June 2021 to reconcile the bank statement balance with the adjusted cash at bank account balance. (7 marks) Explain FIVE (5) reasons for the difference between the balance in the cash book and the balance on the bank statements. (10 marks) (Total: 25 marks) (c)
