Question 6

Log on to Academic Search Complete. Use this database to answer the questions below

What types of documents does the database offer? Which types were retrieved in your search results?

Locate one newspaper, one popular magazine and one scholarly journal article. Copy and paste the citation (author, title, source title, date, page numbers) provided in the article for each type.

What was your search statement? How many results did you receive? Using different search strategies (Boolean terms, nesting, truncation, adjusting date ranges, etc.) how can you use to narrow your results to less than 50 results?

What is the difference between a subject heading search and a keyword search?

Selected Answer:

a) The type of documents in a database are as follows:

NoSQL Database document, document-oriented to store, retrieve, or managing the semi-structured data.

As it is related to the academic search hence the search results would result in the academic-related results.

b) One such magazine can be Journal of communication where the editor is Silvio R waisbord who has established this on date 1951. One citation can be" Communication flagship"

c) The search statement can be anything related to the academic search.

for example search for the student's name

Select Student_Name from Student;

So as to narrow the search result the boolean operators are being used or the limiters can be used or the natural language can be used.

d) The subject heading search is defined as a field of the database or a record whereas the keyword search is defined as a search where all the items are defined.

Hit like if you find the answer useful. :) Hope this answer helps. Thanks

Response Feedback:

I have given you credit for your answer to Part 4. However, the answers to Parts 1 through 3 are not correct. Follow these steps to get to Academic Search Complete and also review Module 4C for help.

Steps to get to Academic Search Complete:

Go to http://www.mdc.edu/learning-resources/libraries/.

Look for Academic Search which is next to Find Articles under the section I Need To. Click on the link.

Log in using your MDC Student ID number as the Borrower ID and the last four digits of the MDC Student ID number as the PIN/Password.

Then enter what you want to look for and answer the rest of the questions.

Question 3

What is the correct way to designate the words, assisted suicide, as a phrase in a search statement?

Selected Answer:

Most databases designate a phrase by enclosing the words within quotation marks. like JOHN SMITH

Response Feedback:

I have given you partial credit since you understood that the words should be enclosed in quotation marks. However, you did not give the phrase inside the quotations marks which is what is needed as the answer. If you want to improve your score and have time before the due date, do a second attempt. You only need to answer the question/s you missed since I know which ones are correct in this attempt.

Question 2

What is the difference between a subject heading search and a keyword search?

Selected Answer:

Heading search using Hyperlinked By click on that link we get our result.

But in keyword search, there is library catalog. By click on title you get full catalog.

Response Feedback:

You are not understanding the question. There is a section in the lesson in Module 4B which provides the difference between the two. IF you have time before the due date and want to improve your score, you can do a second attempt. If you do a second attempt, only answer the question/s that you missed. I know which ones are correct in this attempt.

Question 7

Find an article in Google Scholar that can be retrieved from your college library. You may need to set your Scholar Preferences to customize your search to identify items available from your library. Post the citation and indicate the database from which the article was retrieved.

Selected Answer:

For e.g.

The article to be searched is "A Nonlinear Mapping of Data Structure Analysis"

Settings to customize my search :

A. Click on the TopMost Left corner menu button(Google scholar) and select article.

B. Customize your search by setting your custom range of year, sort by relevance/date, include patents/citations.

C. Type "Data Structure" in search edit box. and click on search button.

D. In the search result click on "A Nonlinear Mapping for Data Structure Analysis"

E. When page opens click on Paper citations, in this case there 1599 paper citations.

F. For e.g. paper citations are

G. The database from which the article was retrieved is IEEE Transactions on Computers ( Volume: C-18 , Issue: 5 , May 1969 )

Response Feedback:

You gave an answer but it is not what the question is asking. The question is asking you to use the link provided in the question and go to Google Scholar and find an article that Miami Dade College has. There is a way to set the preferences to Miami Dade College. You need to provide the citation from the database and the name of the database the article was retrieved from. Review Module 4D since it covers Google Scholar. Remember that you can also go to your campus library/learning commons and ask for help at databases at the Reference Desk there. You can also call me since this is difficult to explain in an e-mail. If you do a second attempt, only answer the question/s you got wrong. I know which ones you have correct in this attempt.
