You have been contracted to install a new network in a house that is being built down the street. The Colonial-style house in which you will be installing a new network is essentially a large rectangular box. The first floor main living space is 32' by 54' with 10' ceilings, and a small 10' by 8' porch. The first floor consists of a large living room, a formal dining room, and a kitchen. There is also an attached 32' by 24' garage.The second floor is also 32' by 54' with 9' ceilings, and includes four bedrooms that each has a computer. There is also a 32' by 54' finished basement which includes an office, workout room, game room, and bar. Finally, there is a 32' by 24' finished pole barn/workshop that is 75' from the house and must be included in the network. The Internet access options for the house include DSL, cable, wireless, and satellite.
Network requirements for the property dictate the following:
At least one wired jack per room.
Network should be able to facilitate transmission of voice, video and data.
There must be high-speed Internet connectivity.
Future scalability to include seamless high-speed wireless LAN connectivity.
Future scalability to include voice over IP throughout the home.
The network must be secure.
Future scalability to include video surveillance cameras.
Future scalability to include network attached storage and a file server.
