Question I: You work as a communication engineer in one of the TV digital broadcasting companies in the middle east. You have been requested to transmit the digital sequence [100101001010011]. Answer the below questions which will enable you to perform the required job. (15 Marks)
a) Encode and draw the given sequence using Differential Manchester encoding technique. (1 Mark)
b) If 8-PSK is used to transmit this sequence which is generated by a bitrate of 0.03 Gbps with a carrier frequency equals 88 MHz:
i. Calculate the bandwidth and the baud rate of the transmitted signal. (2 Marks)
ii. Draw the constellation diagram assuming that the initial phase is 0. (1 Mark)
iii. Create a table to demonstrate the pairs the phase angle and data bits, then draw the transmitted 8-PSK signal for the given sequence. (3 Marks)
iv. If a single parity check is used, calculate the parity bit for the transmitted sequence. (0.5 Mark)
v. If a 2-dimensional parity check is used with 5-columns calculate the parity bits and the overhead for the given data sequence. (1.5 Marks)
vi. If (p = 0.021), compare the probability of receiving all zeros in the given original sequence as 1s to the probability of receiving any zero in the sequence as 1. (2 Marks)
c) The performance of different PSK modulation techniques is shown in Figure (1) below:
i. What do you conclude from the figure if QPSK is used instead of 8-PSK by your company? (1 Mark)
ii. If (p) is kept the same as in (vi), with the help of Figure (1) prove by calculating if the bit rate used by this transmission is reliable for this communication system. (ie. Is it within the capacity of the channel?)
