Question: Identify the existing problems according to the general operation of the current system.

To describe the general operating system of Mega Video (MV), we can simply divide its functions into three parts, which are membership; check in, and check out.

Membership

As we mentioned, the company is running a membership program, the customer must become a member of Mega Video. Membership is free, but each customer must hold a major credit card in his or her own name to be eligible to join.

The customer fills out the membership form. The cashier verifies the credit card and then enters the new information into the computer to create a customer account. The computer assigns a sequential account number to the account. The cashier places a sticker with this number and name on the card. After the new member signs the card, the card is laminated and given to him or her. Now the customer may check out video tapes and VCRs.

Customer check-in

Customers are limited to three videotapes per visit. To check out a tape the customer browses the shelves, which contain empty boxes of videotapes. The boxes contain descriptions of the movies. The customer selects up to three empty boxes and takes them to the checkout point along with their membership card, the cashier then enters the member's number into the computer. The computer will automatically generate information including the balance due and the customer name.

Lastly, the cashier enters the transaction (name, number, and rental current system for a videotape rental store. In price) for each tape. The computer program automatically arrives at the balance due. As soon as the customer has paid, the tapes are retrieved from long shelves behind the counter, where they are stored by number. The cashier takes the tapes, replace them with the correct boxes, and gives them to the customer along with a receipt.

Customer check-out

When the customer returns the tapes, they are placed in a return bin. At a convenient time, the cashier removes the tapes from the return bin and enters them into the computer system as returned so the customer will not be charged for additional time. a late charge is determined and entered into the customer's account if the tapes are late. Later, the cashier returns the Labels to the storage shelves and removes the corresponding boxes, which are returned to the display shelves.

The checkout procedure for VCRs is exactly the same, except that the customer has to sign a contract.

Report generated

Each week Mega Video generates two reports. The first report lists all the unreturned tapes and VCRs alphabetically by customer name. The second report contains unpaid charges resulting from late returns. If the items have not been returned after two weeks from the due date, the account is forwarded to a collection agency, the customer is dropped as a member. The second report is an internal one, used only for records. Any long-term late charges are due to the fact that the customer has returned the items but has never come into the store to check anything else out.
