Question : Offer a reflection on this discussionpost, also provide some personal inputs

Discussion POST - The organization Second Harvest Heartland of Minnesota is part of a national network of food banks and services committed to the vision that "no one should go hungry". There are multiple programs and services connected to Second Harvest Heartland. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) works under the umbrella of Second Harvest Heartland Minnesota's outreach services for food shelves, agency partners, and low-income to understand and apply for EBT grocery benefits. Overall, the systems in place to ensure those in need of food have been positive. However, the cultural framework and leadership adjustments about access, eligibility, and overall program structures require regular updates to the system. This became most evident during the COVID-19 Pandemic when food insecurities affected much larger segments of the population. These services are no longer just for people in the low-income bracket.

Facts About SNAP

SNAP serves approximately 42 million people across the country including more than 435,000 Minnesotans

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service funds the program

Each state directs the program and administers benefits at the county level

Eligibility is based on household size, income, citizenship, and other factors

Participants receive a monthly allowance for groceries, called an EBT card (formerly known as "food stamps")

Recipients use their card just like a debit card to pay for qualifying purchases at grocery stores, farmers' markets, and even online

Basic assumptions, like theories-in-use, are generally non-confrontable and non-debatable and hence are extremely difficult to change. To learn something new in this realm requires us to resurrect, reexamine, and possibly change some of the more stable portions of our cognitive structure, a process that Argyris and others have called "double-loop learning," or "frame-breaking" (Argyris & Schon, 1974, 1996).
