Answer
In healthcare today, there are ever-changing landscapes and scenarios that leaders must navigate and adapt to when persevering through hard times. The ability of a leader to demonstrate "staying power" means that they can effectively navigate through difficult times and remain resilient to guide their team or organization toward long-term success (Kalili, 2024). Leaders must have the ability to bring forth clear and concise communication with team members to ensure there is no confusion amidst the chaos. Effective leaders also demonstrate "staying power" by focusing on developing high-performance teams and building a cohesive group of workers. As we read in the text, developing an effective team requires increasing the frequency of interaction, providing opportunities to discuss group goals and how they can be best achieved, and developing a healthy sense of competition against other teams" (Garman and Dye, 2024). When you can develop a strong core team structure, navigating through adversity can be more seamless. Developing a high-performance team also entails energizing the staff to cultivate a strong work ethic and motivation.
Leaders who are sorting through conflict in their departments or organizations should also have the tools to be able to manage failure. As we read in the text, it is most effective to view failure as part of the success process (Baedke and Lamberton, 2018). I have worked with supervisors who demonstrated great staying power by way of admitting their wrongs and listening to the problem more than speaking. This was effective for this leader to listen to feedback coming from the team to make note of their behavior going forward. Taking ownership in these situations also brings the team together and allows you to hit the reset button. When we can collect ourselves and move forward, the team will come out even stronger than before.
