Question Steam heat exchangers allow heat to transfer from primary heat source to a secondary fluid without direct contact. The two main exchange for this application are shell and tube and plate heat exchangers. You are required to design a shell-and-tube heat exchanger (using LMTD method) to heat water from 25C to 89C using steam at 335C. The steam enters at the shell side at a velocity of 5m/s. The design should adhere to the design constraints stated below: Design constraints: - Due to space limitation, the tube length must not longer than 1m. - Due to pump capacity, the maximum amount of steam will not exceed 1.5kg/s. - There is no phase change in the fluids. You are required to provide a report containing: (1) Introduction of heat exchanger and its design, (2) Design calculations, and (3) Discussion on the heat exchanger design. List of Appendices should also be included in the report for all the reference data used, e.g. thermal conductivity of the solid material, thermophysical properties of the fluid, and etc. All references should be cited according to the APA format. Assumptions made in the calculations should be justified. The design calculations should contain the followings, but not limited to: - Amount of water can be heated up to desired temperature - Heat transfer area - Number of tubes and its dimension - Number of passes
