Question#1: #14 from Turton et al. 3rd Edition with additional questions. Consider the following process which liquid feed material A (normal boiling point of 110 C) is reacted with gaseous feed material G to produce main product C and by-products R and S via the following reactions: A+G C+S G+C R Both feeds enter the process at ambient temperature and pressure. Both reactions occur in the gas phase at moderate temperature and pressure (250 C and 10 bar). The normal boiling points of G, S, and C are less than -120 C. By-product R has a normal boiling point of 75 C is highly soluble in water. Product C is very soluble in water but G and S are insoluble. The single-pass conversion through the reactor is low for feed A, and the ratio of G to A in the feed to the reactor should be maintained in excess of 4 to minimize the chance of other unwanted side reactions. Using this information and assuming that both A and G are expensive, do the following: a) Draw a process flow diagram identifying the main unit operations (reactors, compressor, pumps, heat exchangers, and separators). b) Create a stream table based on the PFD drawn in part (a). This table must include the component names that exist in each stream as well as each stream phase, T and P (provide as much as information that you can based on the information known above and your decisions on the separation section). c) Identify the recycle structure of the process. d) Justify the methods used to recycle A and G. e) What unit operations do you suggest for your separators? Justify your choices. f) How would your PFD change if the price of feed material G were very low? g) How would you determine, in the preliminary design stage of this process, whether the process is economically feasible or not. h) Write the expression for the single-pass conversion for this process. i) Consider the case where feed material A was to be available as a mixture of A and H2 in which would result in production of a strong acid, GH, by another side reaction between G and H2. Discuss whether this case would have required specific attention
