In this lab, we will cover two distinct tasks in offensive security: Network Exploration and Phishing. The purpose of combining these tasks in one lab is to have you become familiar with the structure of the MARS networking environment configured for this class, and then exploit one of the services of that environment by utilizing phishing. We will utilize a combination of tools from multiple virtual environments within the MARS interface. Specifically, you are provided with a Windows virtual machine, which will be used as your primary interface to the tools. This VM has been equipped with many offensive and defensive tools. In addition, you have a full Kali Linux VM, which you can access via VNC from the Windows desktop.

Kali is a distribution of Linux that is famous and popular in the offensive security community because it comes preloaded with a number of handy offensive tools. Its also made to run easily from a DVD or thumb drive rather than being installed on a host computers hard drive. If you are familiar with Kali, you will notice that the desktop does not look like the standard Kali desktop. This has to do with how the VNC is configured. However, all of the Kali tools are present. Youll just have to launch them via the terminal. Furthermore, you can install any other tools from the internet as needed. If youd like to experiment with any other tools during your labs you are welcome to do so.
