Focus Ltd is a company operating in manufacturing and distribution of electronic goods
and its operations are based in the Northwest. The company has a 31 December year-
end.
All employees who work for Focus Ltd have been employed since incorporation of the
company in 2005, except for Lettie Smit, who was only employed from 1 October 2023.
All employees are entitled to two days leave per month employed at Focus Ltd. The
company applies the first-in-first-out method on leave taken by employees, in that the
leave transferred from the previous year is taken first. Leave not taken during a financial
year, limited to a maximum of six days, can be transferred to the following financial year.
Any days exceeding the maximum days allowed to be carried forward are forfeited. The
leave days carried forward should be taken within the first three months of the following
financial year. If not taken, they will be paid out in cash to the employees on 31 March of
each year.
Employees are entitled to a thirteenth cheque on 31 December of every financial year.
This bonus pay-out is made in proportion to the number of months employed in a specific
financial year. The company has 252 working days per year.

Floor Ltd is a company that supplies and installs d i f f e r e n t t y p e s
o f f l o o r i n g and has a 28 February year-end.
On 1 March 2022, Floor Ltd had 54 employees who were earning an average
gross salary of R25800 p e r m o n t h (average cost to company amounted to R27
090 per month). The employees will receive an increase of 10% on 1 March
2023. This will be the first increase since 1 June 2020.
On 1 June 2022, four employees resigned who were earning a gross monthly
salary of R10200 each (cost to company of R10710 each per month). Their last
salary as well as unused vacation leave was paid to them on 30 June 2022,
their last working day. These four employees had three unused leave days
each as at 30 June 2022.
The average gross salary of the remaining 50 employees amounted to R27048
per month (average cost to company amounted to R28400 per month).
On 1 February 2023, Floor Ltd employed two new employees at a gross
monthly salary of R11640 each (monthly cost to company amounted to R12
222 per employee). The two new employees will not receive an increase on 1
March 2023.
All employees of Floor Ltd are entitled to 18 vacation leave days per financial
year. A maximum of six days may be carried over to the following financial
year after which it will lapse if not used. Unused leave days are only paid out to
employees who resign. Employees are not allowed take any vacation leave
during their last month of employment.
