This concept makes sense just from experiences that people have. For example, imagine you, for years, have come home to your house after work to find everything in order as you left it. You think nothing of this because it is a predictable event. Then, one day you come home to your house broken into, everything within it tossed about and the house is in complete disarray. At that point your worldview is shattered, your predictable pattern is gone and you have entered into a chaotic state. It will likely take some time to return to the baseline predictability of coming home to a safe and ordered house now that you have experience the unpredictability of the house break in. In fact, you may need to purchase a security system in order to form a new safety signal that prevents you from living in this new state of unpredictability.
