INCIDENTS DIARY Feb. 1 Obie returns to work after winning his unlawful termination case in court. Several co-workers report that he is boasting about how he "stuck it to management." February 28 Obie has no unscheduled absences for the month of February. March 18 Obie turns in a request for replacement of several tools that he claims were stolen from his tool locker. He names several other employees who he thinks took the tools and complains that these employees are trying to "get him in trouble." Counseled him verbally on the importance of securing his equipment. March 31 Obie has no unscheduled absences for the month of March. April 30 Obie has no unscheduled absences for the month of April. May 1 Obie's work unit receives a commendation for meeting or exceeding production goals without any safety violations or injuries for four weeks in a row. May 7 Obie offers several suggestions at the division's weekly process improvement meeting. One of his suggestions is implemented. May 21 Met Obie returning from lunch break 15 minutes late. Counseled him verbally. He complains about the company attendance policy. May 23 Obie returns from lunch break late again---this time a half hour. Met with Obie in my office and discussed the company's attendance policy. Obie did not give a reason for his repeated tardiness. Followed up with a letter of reprimand.

June 6 One of Obie's co-workers complains that Obie is frequently gone from the production floor making phone calls. June 15 Obie calls at the start of his shift to say that he will be absent from work for the entire week because his wife is having surgery for breast cancer. June 22 Obie returns to work. He requests time off to be with his wife when she goes for chemotherapy. June 26 Met with Obie to review changes in the attendance policy that were implemented while he was absent. He refuses to sign indicating that he has received the policy. July-August Obie is gone one day a week for 8 weeks while his wife undergoes chemotherapy for her cancer. August 31 Obie's work unit receives another commendation for meeting or exceeding production goals without any safety violations or injuries for four weeks in a row. Sept. 8 Obie volunteers to be on a process improvement task group that is looking at ways boost productivity. Sept. 30 Obie has no unscheduled absences for the month of September. October 10 The division receives recognition from the company for having exceeded production goals for the two out of last three fiscal quarters. October 15 A vendor who is a member of the task group complains that Obie is using up their meeting time to complain about the company in general and the division management in particular. Spoke to Obie about his attitude problem. Obie resigns from the task group. October 25 Met with Obie to begin process for conducting the annual performance review. He refuses to complete a self-evaluation prior to the performance review meeting. He says he knows that management is out to get him anyway since he won the court case so why bother.
