Complete analysis & your Best Self self-portrait July 28 e. Submit final assignment by July 28 (6pm) 2.Purpose a. Skills: through the RBSE assignment, you will practice the following skills: i. Analyze key themes that emerge from the stories to give you a more complete and deeper understanding of your strengths. ii. Assess which key factors enable you to act at your best and which factors stand in your way. iii. Compose a self-portrait of who you are when you are at your best. b. Knowledge: after completing this assignment, you will be able to i. Identify your strongest positive attributes, which will enable you to develop and apply them more purposefully in the future ii. Develop a stronger appreciation of your value and positive influence 3.Task: a. Identify 15-20 people who have known you in different capacities at different points in time. Make this list as varied as possible include, friends, family, classmates, teammates, workmates, supervisors, people who report(ed) to you, teachers, coaches, etc. Try to include people from different points in time. b. Ask these 15-20 people to share 3 specific memories about you when they saw you at your best. Ask them to provide details about what happened, how you acted and how it made them feel. Not everyone will respond or provide all 3 stories. You will need at least 30 stories and will want them to be from as diverse a pool of respondents as possible. (See brochure below for a sample letter.) If your respondents dont respond right away, you should remind them a few days before the deadline. c. Compose 3 of your own memories of when you felt you were at your best. Each story should reflect a different type of occasion and a different time in your life. Provide details about the context, how you behaved, why you felt it represented you at your best, the outcomes and how it made you feel. (See brochure below for a sample story.) d. Analyze your stories and those you collected. Look for patterns and dominant themes as well as insights about what your analysis reveals. (See brochure below for a sample analysis.) e. Identify 2-3 enablers that helped you act at your best and 2-3 blockers that hindered you. (See brochure below for sample enablers and blockers, BUT BE SURE TO REFERENCE SPECIFIC EXAMPLES FROM THE STORIES.) f. Determine what you might do differently next time. You are not looking for weaknesses. Rather, you are considering how you might further amplify your strengths. g. Reflect on what you have learned from this assignment about your Johari Window. 4.Use your analysis to create a self-portrait of who you are when you are at your best. Integrate specific examples from the stories to illustrate your points. 5.Criteria for Success: a. Section 1: 3-4 page self-portrait of your magnificent self when you are at your best (60 %) i. Portrait synthesizes key themes and insights from your own stories and those you collected (20%) ii. Relevant and specific quotes, examples and anecdotes from the stories are used to illustrate key points (20 %) iii. 2-3 enablers and 2-3 blockers are identified, along with related reflections and decisions about you might behave differently in the future (15 %) iv. Commentary includes a reflection on how this assignment has changed your Johari Window or not (5%) b. Section 1: Appendices (35%) i. Your own 3 Best-Self stories (15 %) ii. Summarized themes and patterns from your analysis (Do not summarize the stories, but use examples from the stories to illustrate the themes and patterns, as in the brochure) (15%) iii. Respondents list (5%) c. Style & Other (5%) a. Materials are professional, neat and bound together b. Writing is well organized, with good language, grammar and spelling; submission includes your name, the assignment title, date, signed honor pledge, etc.
