POST 1 - I would like to discuss the decision made by Meta to change its name from Facebook in 2021. After plenty of speculation, Facebook, the company that owns platforms including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, rebranded as Meta on 28 October. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told attendees at the company's annual Connect conference: "Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can't possibly represent everything that we're doing today, let alone in the future. Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company, and I want to anchor our work and identity on what we're building toward."

The name was chosen to echo the key product that Zuckerberg hopes Facebook - now Meta - will be represented by: the metaverse, the name for a shared online 3D virtual space that a number of companies are interested in creating as a sort of future version of the internet.

One issue with Meta trying to be the sole company underpinning the metaverse is the pivotal role it would play in our lives if its vision of the future becomes a reality. The company has struggled with outages on its key apps that removed the ability to communicate for large parts of the world in recent months - and if such a thing were to happen in an all-pervasive VR universe like the metaverse, the consequences could be huge.

There are two options for Facebook to choose, to change the name and heavily invest onto Metaverse, or stick to the old social media business. Stay in the old business does not have promising future to the board of Facebook company, as government is having heavy regulation to prevent Facebook from abusing the customer information. Also, many hardware providers have chosen not to support Facebook's business model. For example, Apple allows users to stop the cookie tracing from Facebook, which has affected Facebook revenue significantly. If going to another direction, that is invest hard on metaverse, the company can catch up with the new wave of Web 3.0, the potential future of web ecosystem. It is a trend that digital asset will receive its value as Non-Forgeable Token (NFT) products were accepted by more investors. As a trend, more and more digital assets will be recognized by the Internet users, as what Bitcoin has received. Someone must build the infrastructure for the digital assets. Meta apparently has the accumulation and funds to implement, which will have potential grow in the future. There are pros and cons going through this direction. The pros include promising future. The cons are heavily investment and spending. There are risks that the new business model or technology research could fail. However, apparently the pros outweigh the cons, which makes Facebook making such a decision.

POST 2 - Nike is one of the most well-known sport equipment, fashion and shoe brands in the world. Nike has had humble beginnings, but through the help of Michael Jordan in the 90's, have becoming an incredibly large and powerful company with their hands and power controlling fashion trends across the world. Inside Nike's core values Nike states that their goal is to inspire athletes across the world. Within the past few years Nike has really focused on sustainability within their clothing products and shoes. Nike now prides themselves on being leaders within the sustainability movement by creating refurbished shoes, helping recycle or donate old sneakers to people in need. Nike has shifted much of their core values to preserving sustainability, this could be due to the accusations of the working conditions within Nike manufacturers within China.

Nike embodies a unique and artistic workplace which involves, creativity as well as acting in favor of the environment through sustainable efforts. It's difficult to cast Nike into either side of being qualitative or quantitative with their decision making. However I am more inclined to say Nike uses qualitative decision making as, a marketing strategy they use when selling their most popular shoes, is to deliberately reduce stock in order to make the item more rare and difficult for the general consumer to acquire. This leads to consumers staying interested longer due to the difficulty to acquire the shoes. This allows the popularity of Nike to have an increased staying power within consumers mind. Because of this Nike, has a consistent revenue income stream through all their departments.
