Read Chapter 9: Behavior and Misconduct in Police & Society 8th Ed Kenneth Novak. Next, you will read a journal article by Sloan and Paoline (2021) regarding training. Finally, you will listen to a podcast about AFT operations and misconduct. This week, you will listen to a podcast about a botched ATF sting. Below are supplemental documents to help you understand the breadth and scope of the investigation and the problems stemming from the sting. In a Department of Justice/Office of the Inspector General report, you will find that training is one of the recommendations to fix the problems. Think of the Sloan and Paoline article you will read this week. Could their conclusions apply to federal-level law enforcement? What is the connection between police misconduct and training? We will get more into this in Week 11.
