The Content and Format of Emergency Plans. Read in FEMA Developing and Maintaining Emergency Operations Plans Comprehensive Preparedness Guide (CPG) 101 pages 62-108. NOTE: In the textbook on page 198, the color-coded Homeland Security Advisory System alerts are described. This system was replaced in April 2011 with the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS).

The NTAS is designed to communicate information about terrorist threats by providing timely, detailed information to the American public. All Americans share responsibility for the nation's security and should always be aware of the heightened risk of terrorist attack in the United States and what they should do. This page contains current NTAS advisories (both Alerts and Bulletins), archived copies of expired advisories, and additional information on the NTAS system. I highly recommend reading a few recent alerts.

Submit 2-3 paragraphs on the following topic(s) and review the submissions from the other students and comment or ask a question on at least ONE submission. TOPIC: For this topic, I recommend using the CPG-101, sections Identifying the Right Plan for the Job and The planning process. You are the Emergency Manager for the county that you live in, and it does not have an Emergency Operations Plan. First, you need to determine what type of plan would fit your county best, either a function-focused or agency-/department-focused format. Provide a brief description of how you picked the format. Next, you have proceeded through some steps in the process and are now ready to prepare and review the plan. The second part of your assignment is to highlight the steps you will take as you write the plan and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the plan.
