Dell hired Vanice Hayes in 2020 as the Dell Technologies chief to implement a solid culture that includes diversity and inclusion programs and goals. Miss Hayes reports progress towards achieving inclusive conversations, fine-tuned and widened available employee programs, new solutions to challenges and improved onboarding and job development. In addition, they have set goals for improving the Dell employee experience in diversity, equality, and inclusion, and have been recognized as the number two company (out of 100) as prioritizing their employees and stakeholders, recognized for best place to work for LGBTQIA+ equality, and for "best employers for diversity in 2021. Inclusion goals include, to employee 50% of their total employees as women and for 40% of their leadership as well by 2030. 25% of their workforce to be Black/African American or Hispanic/Latino and 15% of their leadership by 2030 and they have incorporated fundamental goals to improve employee participation and engagement to make employees feel like their jobs are meaningful and inspiring as they have an impact on society. Dell is working hard behind closed doors and their hard work is paying off!
I appreciate the approach Dell has taken in their implementation of DIE and I would like to take that same approach. First, they obtained a leader that understands and has experienced the lack of DIE that many feel on the job, they have accomplished solid improvement and their employees have testified to that, as well as setting realistic goals that can be reached instead of far fetched that would never come to fruit. I would also like to implement various groups with different leaders to plan, develop, and implement the necessary strategic plans to arrive to our end goals. Likewise, set more balance between work and home, by allowing employees a hybrid schedule and add perks that could include a cafeteria that offers healthy meals or shared transportation programs with incentives. The mixture of diversity of men and women, people of different backgrounds and color, as well as leadership would be inspiring for all employees to ensure DIE. The CSR commitment and ongoing goals developed to be reached by 2030 are also impressive and can be fulfilled within the time range set by Dell. They have a performance metrics on their website that measures improvements and lack thereof for both CSR and DEI for the last three years which is very transparent to the public. Including, sustainable materials in products, sustainable materials in packaging, electronics disposition, greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water in operations, waste, etc. According to my research, several articles have been written mentioning the great example Dell has put fourth in CSR goals and accomplishments! It is agreed, this is"largely attributed to the complex and balanced strategy describing the corporate change vision and organizing individual CSR activities into a uniform synergistic structure" (15Writers, 2020) which has been consistently improved thru the years by striving to be the best in the industry. Dell's investment in CSR has influenced the company negatively by affecting their bottom line, however they planned for such situations, and they are looking forward to increased profitability like they experienced in 2017 with customers viewing them as leaders in the industry.
The ENCOMPASS (Smart Cordless Screen Home Phone) can be made with a mix recyclable and new parts. Plus, this new product will initially be introduced to 2% of Dell employees, who will become advocates for our new product, and other employees will also have the opportunity to purchase ENCOMPASS at a reduced price. Individual cell phones are what is driving e-commerce, however our goal is to limit the use of the individual cell phone to our product, by making it the central unit of any home, saving folks money by not purchasing several products (reducing waste), and with the option to add additional apps to avoid future products that can control several home appliances, security, etc.
