You have conducted a survey on 500 people (sample size) of Dhaka city for your final assignment. Your population is all the citizens of Dhaka city.

You have collected two types of data from the people

  1. Quantitative data: Height and Weight of the people; and
  2. Qualitative data: Gender and Opinion of the people on having fixed dress codes for the students in schools. (The uploaded excel file contains the data set that you have collected from these 500 people)

Three years ago a Census was conducted on all the people living in Dhaka city which found the following information on the population,

  • Height: Average is 164 centimeters and Standard deviation is 12 centimeters.
  • Weight: Average is 120 pounds and Standard deviation is 25 pounds.

Questions to be answered:

  1. For quantitative data collected answer the following questions: Assume that the quantitative values (height and weight) provided by the people in both your sample and population are normally distributed.
  2. Draw the frequency distributions and calculate relative frequencies and relative frequency percentages for the quantitative variables (Number of classes should be 5). Decide on the type of the variables (Discrete or Continuous variable). (Hint: Chapter 2)
  3. Calculate the Mean, Variance and Standard deviation for both the variables. And interpret them. (Use these information throughout the assignment while answering questions related to the quantitative variables and hypothesis testing) (Hint: Chapter 3, use concepts from grouped data)
  4. Draw a Polygon and explain the shape of the polygon. (Hint: Chapter 2)
  5. Using Empirical Rule, find at least what percentage of people in this group have weight between 90 and 120 pounds? (Hint: Chapter 3)
  6. Find the probability that the height of a randomly selected person from Dhaka city will be between 150cm and 160cm. (Hint: Chapter 6)
  7. Assume that heights and weights provided by the people in your sample are normally distributed. What is the point estimate of the mean height of all the people living in Dhaka city? Construct 95% confidence intervals for the mean height of all the citizens of Dhaka city. (Hint: Chapter 8)
