Read the following scenario, then answer the questions below. Lee has just started in a new role and has identified some of the key development activities he needs to complete. His Professional Development Schedule (PDS) includes a number of activities such as attending an induction program, observing colleagues on the job, coaching sessions with his manager Phil, and Learning. He has come up against a number of obstacles when implementing his PDS and doesn't know what to do. Phil laughs when he sees the PDS because he knows that the Induction program hasn't been offered for about a year now. Lee doesn't know how to find the Learning and can't spend the time looking for it because his manager keeps asking him to serve customers. Last week Lee approached Phil about scheduling a coaching session and Phil said he didn't have time and told him to go and find someone else to help him. One of his fellow team members has been really helpful, because she remembers what it was like to learn a new role without support. She has told Lee that she can give him help to find the information he needs. Questions 1. Plot Lee's situation on the Barrier/Helper matrix. 2. What could Lee do to overcome these obstacles? 3. What Helpers could Lee harness to improve his situation?
