Burton Snowboards was founded in $1977$ by Jake Burton out of a Vermont barn. The Burton employees are long$-$term employees and enthusiastic snowboarders.

CONCEPT REVIEW:

Burton manufactures snowboards using a build$-$to$-$order production environment. Just enough inventory is purchased to build the snowboards.The inventory is expensive and fresher inventory results in a better snowboard. Very little automation is used to build the snowboards. The board manufacturing process is primarily a handwork operation.
