Conditions Due Wednesday 10th March 2021 Total Marks: 64 marks Scenario: Quindalup Border Collies Sally Mathieson is a respected breeder of Border Collie dogs at her rural property in Quindalup, WA. She house-raises puppies as non-working family dogs and sells them to keen dog owners all across Australia. Sally also exhibits her dogs at various town shows, including the Perth Royal Show, where they have won many awards. Sally currently uses three simple, unconnected database systems to keep track of her business. The Personnel database contains details of all owners and potential owners. The Dogs database contains details of all dogs bought and sold by the business. For each dog, Sally must record its name, sex (M or F), microchip number, registration, whether it is (or going to be) a breeding dog (Y or N), mates, progeny (offspring), purchase price, veterinary care history, parent names, vaccination history, personality and colour. Quindalup Border Collies come in one of three colour combinations: black & white (BW), merle (ME) or chocolate & white (CW). Currently, it is puppy season and there are two main breeding pairs on the property - Sam (M; BW) & Queenie (F, ME); and Mason (M; CW) & Sapphire (F; CW). Sam and Queenie have produced two litters of five puppies (1M; 4F) (3M; 2F) each this season. Mason and Sapphire have produced one litter of seven (3F; 4M) puppies this season. All puppies, except for one female from Mason and Sapphire's litter, are for sale. Sally records key information for each puppy as above in the Dogs database. When a potential owner wishes to purchase a Border Collie puppy, their basic details are recorded by an online form into the Personnel database - this includes their name, address and contact details. The date is also recorded. Only one record can be made per person in this database. Sally contacts all potential owners and decides whether they would make a good Border Collie owner. She also inspects their yards where possible. When a puppy has been confirmed as going to a new home, the purchaser is now the owner. A record is made in the Financial database with the new owner's details as specified in the Personnel database. This has to be added manually. The base cost is $500, and Sally adds the cost of any veterinary visits. She also records if the puppy has received medical attention, a microchip and vaccinations for Canine Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Kennel Cough and Distemper. Puppies cannot go to a new home before they are 12 weeks old. 12ATCSC_Assessment Task 2 P SDLC T Goodwin 2021 Quindalup Border Collies has a home office on their property, with a server on which the database systems are stored. The office is unlocked most of the day. There is a workstation in the 'puppy room' which is eight years old and connected to the server via a bus network and coaxial cables. The system is critical at the moment for keeping records of the new puppies. The operating system used is Windows XP Sally would like to replace the current three database systems (Personnel, Dogs and Financial) with one integrated system. It is planned that the new system will perform all the same tasks as the current systems, with some improvements (for example, being able to track each dog's Show awards and breeding lines would help with pedigree registration).
