Read through this article in Fortune about a recent article about social media: https://fortune.com/well/2023/11/08/digital-detox-social-media-goldilocks-rule/ Then, write down your answers to the following questions on a sheet of paper that you will add to and turn it at the end of class.

1. Based on this Fortune article, what kind of research did they use: qualitative, observational, correlational, or experimental?
2. What kind of claim are they making about social media hiatus and the outcome variables: frequency, association, or causal?
3. BEFORE moving to the next one: imagine your friend said, "I want to go on a social media detox/hiatus, and I saw this article but I don't get what they're trying to say." How would you explain what your friend should know from the Fortune article in a couple sentences
4. Try to find the ORIGINAL scientific publication by the researchers at Durham University. Search for about 5 minutes maximum.
   • If you ARE able to find it in that time, write down the authors' names and the title of the article.
   • If you are NOT able to find it, write down where/what terms you searched for.
5. Try to evaluate the scientific validity of the article based on the FORTUNE article AND at this point, you can supplement it with the following article about the same study from Science https://www.science.org/content/article/social-media-addictive-digital-detox-study-suggests-not(okay if you do not read the original article, especially since some folks may not find it):
   1. How is the internal validity? Why do you think so?
   2. How is the external validity? Why do you think so?
   3. How is the construct validity? Why do you think so?
   4. How is the statistical validity? Why do you think so?
