The external candidate interviews and presents better than the internal candidates and is offered the job, which they accept. It is announced and almost immediately the chief steward of the union asks you how you could support the hiring of a relative of the department manager that they will report to$.$ Embarrassed, you thank the steward for their feedback and proceed to have a discussion with the department manager about anti$-$nepotism policies and request to know why the family connection was not disclosed.
