Restriction on the use of blue lamps and sound alarms on vehicles a)Subject to section 3 below, no government official may use blue lamps or sound alarms on his or her vehicle. b) Additional vehicles escorting a government official in the course of his or her duties may not use blue lamps or sound alarms. 2. Officials who may use blue lamps and sound alarms in the performance of their duties a) The drivers of a rescue vehicle, ambulance or fire-fighting vehicle may use blue lamps if responding to an emergency. b) Police officers may use blue lamps while in direct pursuit of a person suspected of a serious crime, or if necessary to preserve life. 3. Officials who may exceed the speed limit in the performance of their duties A) Subject to subsections (c) and (d) below, the drivers of a rescue vehicle, ambulance or fire-fighting vehicle may exceed the speed limit if responding to an emergency. B) Subject to subsections (c) and (d) below, police officers may exceed the speed limit while in direct pursuit of a person suspected of a serious crime, or if necessary to preserve life.
