Re-Imagining Retail Papers

Write a paper that answers the following questions to re-imagine shopping mall and/or grocery spaces as social spaces in an age of e-commerce. Assume the underlying premise that the more time humans spend in a memorable space, the more we are likely to spend on goods in that space and that our need for purchasing retail goods efficiently is met through online technology and delivery methods. Submit a word document file of your paper to the Re-Imagining Retail Assignment Answer the following three questions in no more than 3 pages per question (please be concise with your answers). This assignment is all about using your imagination and creative problem solving - how can you change an environment to change or support desired behavior? Proposing creative and innovative solutions is the goal of the assignment. If you would like, you may provide photo examples or outside sources to help describe and illustrate your points.

Question 1: Research ways empty mall spaces are being re-purposed to be more useful to the surrounding community, either as educational, healthcare, workspaces, living spaces or for recreation and entertainment. (Find an outside source of information and cite your source using a standard academic citation format.) Question

2: Describe a time and space you like to be around other people in a setting outside of your home - either to interact or observe. Describe if you like to interact primarily with people you know or have an affiliation with to share an interest or activity, or if you prefer diverse groups. Describe the behavior-setting (what is the behavior and type of activity expected and describe the aesthetic of the space)?

3: According to the "Aisles of Life" reading "Convenience" is often confused with "Comfortability", however, convenience is an instrumental approach to design and comfort is a spiritual approach. Propose some ideas to mix in the behavior setting you discussed in question 2 to make a typical mall or typical big box grocery store most "Comfortable" for you as a place to interact and connect with other humans. Imagine designing a retail space that you personally would consider to have "Aisles of Life" that would make you want to leave the comfort of your own home (and your computer) to make a connection to the physical world and other humans in the retail environment. Refer to concepts in the "Aisle's of Life" reading to support your ideas & explain some pros and cons of this idea? (See examples next page). Be creative - you can describe practical & functional challenges in you
