Relationship Ideologies

Relationship ideologies are what a couple expects in a relationship and are related to factors such as autonomy and conflict resolution. For example, some couples may find it appropriate to call or text each other often about small, daily decisions, while other couples expect to discuss only major decisions together. For this activity, use a sociological lens to examine the societal implications of different relationship ideologies. One may consider ones own expectations in romantic relationships, or interview individuals of two different generations in your life, such as a friend, a guardian, or a mentor.

Identify and discuss two different people's relationship ideologies.

(1) explain each concept, theory, and term applied, (2) examine the similarities and differences in each ideology, and (3) analyze the societal implications of these ideologies, such as social norms for relationships and gender roles.
