Recent studies have examined adolescents and their social media use. The goal of the study was to find out if the three subgroups predicted psychosocial functioning. The three subgroups are high overall social media use, high Instagram/Snapchat use, and low overall social media use. The low social media use subgroup is described by lacking the use of all social media platforms. The people in this group tend to only use social media occasionally. The high social media use subgroup is described as the frequent use of all social media platforms. The people in this group tend to use all social media platforms. The high Instagram/Snapchat subgroup is described by people who use these two social media platforms hourly (Vannucci, & McCauley, 2019).

The benefits of social media use were that it can help a person have higher levels of support from friends and make friends. The high Instagram/Snapchat use subgroup had little to no depressive symptoms, panic disorder symptoms, and poor family functioning. The low social media group had the lowest levels of poor family functioning and gained from not having internalizing and externalizing struggles (Vannucci, & McCauley, 2019). The non-beneficial factors of social media are that social media can cause internalizing and externalizing problems and problems with family functioning. The high social media group had the most problems with these things than any other subgroup. The high Instagram/Snapchat subgroup was linked to the most anxiety-driven school avoidance and delinquent behaviors. The subgroup that had the most problems with support from friendships and forming friendships was the low social media use subgroup (Vannucci, & McCauley, 2019).

The textbook is similar to the information in the article. It expresses the damages of social media and how social media can give adolescents a false sense of body image through filters and photoshop applications. The book does not go into much detail about the benefits that social media has on adolescents, unlike the article does.

The scripture that stands out that goes along with social media is Proverbs 14:15. In Proverbs 14:15 It says, "The simple believes every word, But the prudent considers well his steps (New King James Version)." You can not believe everything you read and hear on social media. The article states that these social media filters make girls in particular want to portray idealized self-images of themselves instead of their real images. Instagram and Snapchat have the most features when it comes to retouching images and creating interesting images and videos. Research has shown that these things can create more friend support and increase friendship skills.

The study concerning this discussion is by Vannucci & McCauley Ohannessian (2019). Social Media Use Subgroups Differentially Predict Psychosocial Well-Being During Early Adolescence. The benefits of social networking sites are as diverse as their usage choices, including everything from text format-based interfaces that pay attention primarily to the dissemination of information like Twitter and visual content-based platforms that allow communication through visual content, such as Instagram and Snapchat to even larger platforms that offer multiple range activities like Facebook (Vannucci & McCauley Ohannessian, 2019). Usage suggests that adolescents use social media for multiple requirements.

In this study, three social media use subgroups were identified: active social media users (8%) (e.g., omnivores) who consume social media daily to hourly, high Instagram/Snapchat users (53%) (e.g., devotees) that use these applications and low social media users (39%) solely (e.g., dabblers) who use social media infrequently (Santrock, 1987). In every case, there are positives and negatives to consider. Social media is no less than a blessing in present times, allowing its users the following: self-expression, social interactions, acquisition of knowledge, careerism, sharing of information, distraction, and fun. Simultaneously, it is the cause of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, illicit behavior, domestic issues, cyberbullying, the problem of teenage school avoidance, and even lack of support from family and friends. This study mainly emphasized the early adolescents and how their diversified needs contribute to their social media usage changes. However, usage patterns may vary in young adults. 87% of young adults who have access to the internet use Facebook, 53% use Instagram, and 37% use Twitter (Vannucci & McCauley Ohannessian, 2019). The text explains how today's adolescents are exposed to digital platforms compared to older generations. Still, despite Internet usage, they are supposed to learn certain proficiencies apart from the technological basis, which is challenging. The text concurs with the article that everything comes with a cost, just like the Internet has its fair share of drawbacks despite being advantageous. Still, the text does not explain the comparison and usage of different social media platforms, which is thoroughly enunciated in the article.
