A questionnaire was developed by a team of scientists to gauge one's cultural intelligence (CQ). Fill out the CQ Survey on page 51, and then enter your results in this worksheet (which in turn will compute your results for each topic). Look up the meaning of the ratings to comprehend the findings. This article examines CQ throughout the Canadianarmed forces. The medians as opposed to sums are used in the research. View the mean scores by initial language, sexual orientation, and rank on the article's final page to get a sense of how other people did.
The four years I served in Germany were the highlights of my life. In an effort to immerse themselves in the community's culture, my wife and I decided to live off the military installation. We wouldn't have been as daring to rely on the local economy if it weren't for my military background, especially given that we didn't speak the local language. We discovered that our neighbors valued our efforts to engage in their cultural practices and events, as well as to learn and speak their language. Finally, despite having moved away years ago, we developed lifelong friendships and continue to communicate.
Here are the findings of my survey. My score places me at a moderate CQ on the survey's rating scale, exactly in the middle. In order to help me in those areas which I am not capable of performing efficiently, it proposes a CQ developmental plan.
CQ | Score |
CQ: Strategy | 19 |
CQ: Knowledge | 11 |
CQ: Motivation | 22 |
CQ: Behavior | 32 |
CQ: Total | 84 |
I believe my scores in Strategy (Metacognitive), Motivation and Behavior stem from my cultural awareness training and my personal experiences. I enjoyed learning from my neighbors in Germany as they introduced my wife and I to their family and friends. I believe I learned a lot more from them about their local dialect, their holiday customs etc. than if I had studied the German culture from a book or for a school project.
Cognitive CQ represents anunderstanding of social standards, customs, and traditions gained via learning and personal interaction. Despite the fact that it draws on my personal knowledge, I think I performed the worst in this section due to the survey's emphasis on certain topics, including grammar principles, opinions on religion, authorized and financial systems, and so on. I think I could have appreciated these kinds of experiences more fully if I had studied them in greater detail from a work of literature or other initial source.
