I would handle an inappropriate question by simply stating that you feel uncomfortable answering that question and to go onto the next question. It shows that you are setting your boundaries and that you still want to continue, just not with that question. It creates boundaries without making the interview uncomfortable for both parties. If you just simply say that you're uncomfortable with that and sit there, there will be awkward silence and make both parties feel uncomfortable until the interviewer continues themself. But if you say that you don't feel comfortable answering the question and that we should move on to the next question, it keeps the flow and the uncomfortable feeling at a minimum.
