One example that comes to mind is paying off your mortgage early. This concept happens or make easy because the sooner you pay off your loan, the less interest you will have to pay. This is something my husband and I are trying to do. We listen, use and practice the financial peace by Dave Ramsey. Some of his methods are a little out there, however, I think the guidance, tools and advice he gives his very good. The guidance and advice we have/trying to use, it paying an extra payment a year (13 months total) and on that payment, putting "principal only", and you should pay your house off in half the time. This is for instance, when you have a 30-year fixed mortgage, which is what we have. The benefit of this is the reason Dave does this which is called, financial peace. This is the benefit and the reward of being able to be debt free sooner than expected. I also do the same thing with my car, except, I pay bi-weekly for mine. My second payment is the total amount for the month. You have to budget, or at least that is how my family and I have to do it. When you budget, it puts many things into perspective. We always prioritize of bills. What is important to what we can cancel other and us that we need to reconsider? We sit down once a month and go over numbers. How much we spent that month on groceries and other things are discussed in order to see where the numbers need to change and what we need to do to improve those numbers. We also have daycare, mortgage, car payment, and others that will always come first. Our family and others may not agree with what stays and what goes, however, people have to decide for their families and what makes best.
