However, they have different approaches to leadership, goals, and power. Serving others first and nurturing individual growth and well-being is the servant leader's focus (Boone and Makhani, 2013). On the other hand, transformational leaders focus on inspiring change and achieving organizational goals (Evans, 2019). According to Boone and Makhani (2013), leadership is not comprised of a single characteristic or trait. Instead, it consists of a more extensive set of well-recognized skills, behaviors, and attitudes. Healthcare servant leaders display many ethical characteristics to help guide their actions and decisions. Ethical characteristics such as respect, integrity, and compassion are essential attributes of the servant leader. These ethical characteristics help influence patient care, ethical decision-making, and communication. When servant leaders uphold these values and principles, they contribute to a culture of moral leadership and excellence in healthcare delivery. Boone and Makhani's (2013) article discusses attitude number #4, "It is good to give away my power," highlighting a servant leader's humility (pg. 92). I chose humility as a necessary attitude for a servant leader because it fosters inclusiveness. Leaders who practice humility can recognize the expertise and contributions of others. They realize they can't do and don't know everything. Essentially, humility is an attitude for leaders in healthcare because it fosters a culture of respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Humility can be demonstrated in many ways by a healthcare leader. A humble leader can demonstrate humility by actively listening and soliciting feedback from staff, patients, and families. Instead of assuming they have all the answers and that their way is right. A humble leader would seek input from those directly involved and appreciate their insights and experiences. Laub's six key elements of a servant organization provide a framework for evaluating an organization's commitment to servant leadership for a healthy organization (Laub, 2024). The key elements are sharing leadership, valuing people, developing people, building community, displaying authenticity, and providing leadership. My organization reflects the commitment to valuing people because it fosters a culture of diversity, belonging, and inclusion of all people. This organization also commits to developing people by encouraging higher education with financial assistance and providing skills training and mentorship opportunities. Even though this organization strives to be healthy, there are many opportunities for improvement in its servant leadership practices..
