Day by day, we take many actions and make decisions based on statistical thinking, and we are rarely aware of it. According to statistical thinking, we can say that statistics is a science related to data that is collected, organized, and analyzed in a temporal frame of reference to know averages, trends, and possibilities.
Statistics allow us to gather data on a topic, organize it to understand it better, and, with it, make our decisions better. For example, when I decided to come to Boston to study. I went to a travel agency where a lady told me that the best places in the United States to explore were San Francisco, Washington, New York, Boston to learn English. So I had to talk to 7 people who had done the exchange to learn English and ask them which city they liked best; at the end of the interviews I had with them, I chose Boston as it is one of the best cities for education in the United States. Also, I had to check among the rankings that we had in Colombia of the best place to study English which was, and all indicated that Boston. So even if I did not know it, it was a statistical thought that led me to make the decision, and I consider it the best decision for me.
Another simple example of everyday life is organizing a party and deciding what color is most appropriate for your event. The options would be red, blue, yellow, pink, black, and white. Then they vote for the colors, and in the end, they add up in total. They are assuming they voted ten people and six for white. It would be the color that I would be chosen for the event.
According to statistical thinking, it is necessary to understand the thought patterns and strategies used to solve problems in the real world. Even if we do not realize it, we are using statistics in many aspects of our lives to solve problems better.
