Statistical thinking is a way of understanding a complex world by describing it in relatively simple terms that capture essential aspects of its structure. That also provides us some idea of how uncertain we are about our knowledge. The foundations of statistical thinking come primarily from mathematics and statistics and computer science, psychology, and other fields of study. ( Russell A. Poldrack, Jan 11, 2021).
It can be considered an essential part of everyday life, not only for numerical reasons but as an indispensable tool for understanding many data and more complete and complex reasoning within a learning area.
Statistics help improve knowledge because it implies taking all the necessary information in any method to know and learn more about it. With it, you can act.
We can find three essential things that we can do with statistics: we often need to describe it in a simplified way that we can understand. Also, we often need to make decisions based on data, usually in the face of uncertainty. And we often wish to make predictions about new situations based on our knowledge of previous conditions.
In my opinion, statistics is essential because it is present in most of the activities that surround us, even though most people do not realize it. For example, when we are working on a project in the office, the main thing is to show a result, where every effort is measurable, the quality of the deliverables, the time to react, the time to solve. Still, you also learn from lessons learned that statistical numbers could guide decision-making to determine how many people can work on that same project. Then everything is confined to the probabilities.
So, I can say that before taking the statistics courses, I did not understand what it was because I thought they were just numbers, but then I realized that statistics could be daily because many of our actions are measure with statistics.
My most frequent testimony is when I get up, I know that if I want to get to the gym early, I must leave 5 or 10 minutes before because traffic is difficult in the morning hours.
Also, according to the statistics of numerical data, we can measure the days that people go to the gym a week. For example, people said that:
5, 3, 4, 2,4 8,2,1,4,3,
7,3,4,4,5 6,3,4,3,6
Where Mode is 4, the Median is 4. the number most often is 4. we can determine it with statistics.
In conclusion, I consider that statistical thinking is important for every action we do in our daily lives. We should not think about statistics in our work environment; only, we must apply it most of the time, which is fundamental for finding solutions.
