I support the Federal Trade Commission's ruling on clinical trials oversteps its authority. POM gave valid reason and documentation that POM has great health benefits and poses no danger to consumers.
The point of the Trade Commission's work is to protect consumers from unfair or deceptive acts or practices which then creates the Agency's twoprimarymissions which are: protecting competition and protecting consumers. The FTC overstepped there boundaries because the public has a right to receive information on the possible health benefits of a product not just those made by clinical trials. POM manufactures pomegranate juice which is a natural fruit juice with no additives unlike other companies. POM knew that using all natural products it would be better on the market and cause less health issues. If POM was to allow two clinical trials that would drastically effect the data they already had. Think of how many mixed reviews could come back therefore messing up the positive feedback that POM does indeed have great health benefits.
Instead, taking trial at a reliable clinic would be helpful and easy for FTA to communicate and take a decision on food quality. However, consumers should always get the most accurate information and there's a better way to to that which is looking at its ingredients. So FTC should abide by the rule and should go with POM;s views by a better and improved method.
