  1. Understand the Research Process

  1. Review Past Projects and Identify your Broad Interest

There are many senior projects available at the library; consult them to identify some niche areas for your project (see BB for the links). Use keywords and check some of the databases in the library. For a quick overview, look at the title, summary, introduction, objective, conclusion, etc. Look at the topic covered and the research questions; narrow your research area into a specific area you want to work in.

  1. Review Past Projects and Academic Literature.

A literature review essentially consists of critically reading, evaluating/organizing existing literature. Understanding the current state of the body knowledge is essential in a research project. Review this literature to assess the state of experience in the area you want to work in and look for opportunities to add something to the body of knowledge. This is the place where you look for gaps. Use Google Scholar, Scopus, and other databases and select the most relevant topics and high-quality research articles for your interested area. Also, look to the essential and recent articles found in the list of references.

  1. Identify your Key Research Question and Find Potential Research Topics.

Further research is needed. For example, a topic might be "Consumer Trust in Robo-Advisors within the UK. The research question (RQ1) would be "What are the Key Drivers of UK Consumers Trust in Robo-Advisors? and RQ2, "How do these Drivers Vary Between Demographic groups." You may have about 2 or 3 RQs.

  1. Evaluate your Research Topics and Pic your Topic.

To choose from the topics, you selected, use an evaluation metric such as "Originality," "Importance," "Literature Availability," "Access to the Dataset," "Access to the Resources," "Analysis Capabilities and Skills," "Topic Attraction."
