RESEARCH SITUATION

New school principals in a district are interested in learning more about the experiences of their educational support staff to develop an approach to mental health and wellbeing. While the simplest way to understand what teachers and school staff need to support their mental health is to ask them, many education institutions do not regularly survey staff to establish their levels of wellbeing. The principals therefore hired a group of researchers to develop an evaluation program using a set of questions to help schools better understand their staff and provide them with the support they need. The program includes tools that can be used to measure wellbeing robustly and consistently. The project was developed to use these sets of questions to determine:

How teachers and other school staff are feeling

What is driving good and poor mental health (including asking staff how they feel about work practices, culture, engagement, and management)

How supported teachers and other school staff feel

Whether teachers and other school staff feel equipped to support children and young people with their mental health

Any additional support they need for their mental health and wellbeing.

Some principals decided to use the whole survey while others chose to select sections from it, depending on priorities and needs. The researchers conducted a literature review and discovered that there were several ways that educational staff satisfaction can be impacted by age, length of service, and employment status. Based on this literature review, the researcher established a series of conceptual/theoretical problem statements that generated the following research questions derived from examinations of t-test procedures and univariate and multivariate Analysis-of-Variance techniques (One-Way Analysis of Variance, Two-Way
