Researchers evaluated the proposition that long-term use of earphones was a risk factor for a rare form of inner-ear cancer in a case-control study. They found that, of the 78 people with the inner-ear cancer (cases), 36 had used earphones for long periods of time, compared with 35 of the 86 people without inner-ear cancer (controls).
