Researchers hypothesized that wild birds might be better able to avoid flying into windows that were placed at an angle rather than oriented vertically. An experiment was performed in which windows were placed at the edge of a forest. Half the windows were oriented vertically, and half were tilted at a 20 degree angle. During the next four months, 31 birds crashed into the vertical windows and 14 crashed into the tilted windows.
