Researchers in Denmark designed a study to determine if recommending people use masks and giving them a free supply of surgical masks reduced the probability that people get infected with COVID-19. For a group of 2,392 people they recommended that they use a mask, gave them instructions on how to wear it properly, and a free supply of 50 surgical masks. Of this group, 42 got infected with COVID-19 during the period of the study (May 2020). They also had a ?control? group of 2,470 people who they did not give masks to or instructions on how to wear them properly and 53 of them got infected with COVID-19. This group was still free to get masks on their own and wear them if they choose to. Based on this data, test whether giving people a free supply of masks plus instructions on how to use them affects the probability that they get infected with COVID-19 and report the p-value (one-sided test).
