The overarching goals

The overarching goal of my proposed program was to increase the rate of successful discharges from a substance recovery agency by identifying barriers and by finding a solution. Single parents who are seeking treatment that have been recommended for residential services are declining treatment because they do not want to be separated from their children for an extended problem. Many treatment facilities require that clients do nothing but focus on their sobriety for an extended period of time. This includes not seeking employment.

They are recommended to attend groups, attend individual sessions with their counselor, go to medication assisted treatment (MAT) if applicable, focus on their biomedical health, and attend mental health appointments if applicable. Clients are asked to do the difficult work of focusing on their sobriety with no distractions. This would be an amazing opportunity for a single person with no children, but for a single parent with children, separation could cause more emotional problems for all parties involved. It is a stereotype that just because a parent is addicted to substances they have lost the ability to protect their children. This is the case for some individuals but is not the case for all. Considering their addiction shows that their coping skills and problem solving skills are obviously not where they should be, but their behavior also depends on their substance of choice and the severity of their addiction. Other factors may also play a part such as biomedical problems and mental health disorders.

Two outcomes

Without goals, an intervention could be an aimless effort that does not seem to go anywhere important (Dudley, 2020, p. 151).One outcome would be the agency would see higher success rates, and testimonials of clients who experienced great results and are currently maintaining their sobriety. The program will offer 90 days inpatient treatment along with aftercare services for up to a year. The time frame can be extended based on the needs of the client and their family. Another outcome would be that the program would be highly sought after because of the option for the single parent to have the option to bring their children along. This option allows the parent to focus on their sobriety without causing additional trauma to the client or their children. In addition to these options there would be a high likelihood for additional grant funding and possibly expanding housing based on the need.

How outcomes would support the overarching goals

Empowerment is globally accepted as a central concept for social work, as can be seen in the international definition of social work, in which empowerment is stated as a core value(Noordink, 2021).The overarching aim of the program is to assist clients in becoming accountable, healthy, safe, and sober. These protective factors will aid them in being the best parents they can to raise their children in a stable environment. Another goal is to decrease the odds of the children repeating the cycle.
