Module Discussion 7: Culture, Adversity, and Leadership

Adversity is something that exists in all aspects of life in one form or another. However in cultural terms, adversity can be monumental in terms of leadership capability. While leaders are can have well planned strategies, many rely of hard core performance over the latter. While both strategy and performance are essential in organizational culture, circumstances like adversity can change that (Heskett, 2012).

The key piece that determines if a leader is capable to handle adversity or challenges varies on the perspective of the leader. Often times depending on severity of the challenege ahead, sink or swim mentality kicks in. If leaders are able to adapt and modify to this change, then adversity can shift into opportunity (Patry, 2021).
