(Bateman et al., 2022) summary: In Shabnam Priyadarshini's journal "its nice to be at work: role of interpersonal skills for career success" (Priyadarshini, 2022), she speaks about the importance of interpersonal skills and how this can take you further in your career. Shabnam is based in Hyderabad, India and works with the Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, Institute of Management. It is explained in this journal that successful management skills include conceptual, technical, and people skills. The focus of this article to highlight that interpersonal skills are the basis of good, worth while management, while technical and conceptual skills are the second in command. While interpersonal skills are rated as very important, good technological skills are also highlighted in this journal specifically, along with technological etiquette. There are also issues with communicating through technology, though, and without verbal queues, tone of voice, etc., it can be very hard to non- emotionally communicate when communicating in this very digital era. Implementing good communication and interpersonal skills both digitally and in person can truly take your business relationships to the next level. Discussion: Both of the articles I selected absolutely relate to the concept of interpersonal and communication skills. It is stated "The effective communication enables various people, groups, organizations for achieving to their aims, making communication in high level and almost, it influences to all aspects of the organizational behavior." Nadir, M. (2022). This statement highlights how important it is to communicate effectively, as communication is the key to not only your employees and management team, but to allowing same to feel comfortable in the space that they spend most of their time in. This article also specifically speaks on how important it is to communicate effectively as communicating properly may change one's mind and attitude towards the speaker and their message. "Speaker expresses the thought by the help of language during communication, interlocutor understands his expressed thoughts by the language. The results of this interaction can be considered the changes in the reaction of listener considering the sayings or in the psychical attitudes" Nadir, M. (2022). This shows how important it is to communicate effectively and have those interpersonal skills in your pocket, so to speak, as the communication can be one of criticism, but due to the speaker's interpersonal skills, it can be taken positively and a 10:3 11/7/20 fg no insert port sc 9 backspace385249/discussion_topics/3232500 A 1 8 emotionally communicate when communicating in this very digital era. In the other article I selected, it is stated "While managers just focus on their employees understanding their responsibilities, projects and deadlines, leaders support and encourage their employees so that they not only accomplish their jobs but are also effective in them". Priyadarshini, S. (2022). This attributes to the similarity of both articles, as it is explained in both that interpersonal and communication skills are a part of an arsenal of good management skills. Without good interpersonal and communication skills it is likely that you will have a disjointed and often times hostile work environment. Being able to effectively communicate in the workplace also will allow your employees to feel the freedom to ask for company incentives, such as raises and days off, because if you are comfortable and taken care of in your work environment, you are able to freely communicate when you need a day off or when you feel as though you have been working diligently and deserve the recognition for same. Also, relating to the other sets of skills that have been mentioned regarding good management, technical and conceptual skills will flourish in environments that allow for employees to feel appreciated and who like to come to work every day. Through good interpersonal skills, you can teach people without them feeling less than, and you can build them up while they are learning. Biblical Integration: The Bible says "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person" Colossians 4:6 (ESV). This relates to the topic of interpersonal and communication skills in the sense that those skills are the "seasoning with salt" as spoken of in that Bible verse. To speak with people in a gracious, respectable and empathetic way is what we as Christians should always aspire to do, as it inspires those around us to be the best we can be. As well, our interpersonal skills allow us to be able to speak to specific people in specific ways, allowing our communication in the workplace to cover a broad range of employees and allow for a wholly happy and healthy management style and work environment.
