Clinical prediction is based on a rater's evaluation of an individual, usually after interviews and direct examination of the subject and his or her records. The factors that are used in making such predictions are the determination of subsequent offending or dangerousness may be too strict, variables being used to determine future behavior may not be predictive, and predictions based on limited observations may produce predictions relying on incomplete or distorted information. Reasons why clinical prediction tend to have poor results are because they have a great tendency for false determination which are both positive and negative, because training and disposition of the individual rather often determines what variables and factors are important.
