appropriate. Be concise and real. Cabin in the Woods, Inc Cabin in the Woods Inc. is an entrepreneurial company that has forged a new and exciting vacation concept. With the dizzying speed of work, technology and pace of life, Cabin has created a network of cabin based vacations throughout the world. The cabins are all rustic, reflect the culture of the country and are in a rural environment. The target market of couples and families find a relaxing, real and culturally rich vacation that has caused significant growth over the past five years. Ted Bear is the founder and CEO of Cabin. In his youth and early 20's he loved camping and staying in small cabins in Northern Ontario. At times he would lay awake at night dreaming how this is a real "get-away and wouldn't it be cool if everyone around the world could experience this. He has an exec team of five and a full time staff of 35 people all working out of Toronto. The company has been self financed and to date has been able to manage its growth through internal cash flow. It has a sterling reputation in the industry and its growth has been fueled primarily by word of mouth. They are interested in buying sufficient capacity such that Cabin would double its business yet again. Although the margins would not be as large, the additional revenue would be significant. As the exec team explored this, Jim the Marketing Director mapped out how this was an outstanding opportunity and how he could make it happen. Julie, the VP Finance was firm, "This will cause our company to implode and kill us." After three days of analysis and assessment, the exec team is significantly divided on what to do. Julie and the VP of Operations are on one side while Jim and the others are on the opposite side. Ted knows that without a team in agreement, a move on this opportunity would not work. Ted knows that each member of his team is passionate about Cabin, having been together right from the beginning (except for Julie). He also knows that they are highly competent and that they feel like owners. Julie is the newbie, having been on the team for only 6 months. She is a CPA. but this is her first senior, executive level job. Ted recognizes that he must demonstrate his leadership in this situation. Ted has worked hard to build relationships with all of his staff and is concerned that this "crack in the armour" may lead to his team two weeks. fragmenting. He is beginning to run out of time since the tour operator wants an answer to their offer within
