Respond to these two peers with thoughts questions/concerns likes and dislikes about their posts

1. At first, when I started looking at the expectations placed on counselors in educational settings, I thought to myself, "Oh, it's kind of much, it doesn't seem too bad". Then, I started reading what each thing was. That is when my thought changed. It is in fact very much! These things are mostly realistic, but for one person to meet all of those expectations is what seems unrealistic. I do think that one training program could prepare a person to meet all of those expectations, but for them to actually accomplish everything would take a great amount of dedicated time.

I would hope that one person would not have to take on that much responsibility per building. In the schools here (Storm Lake), there are two in each building. For example, in high school, there is one for freshmen and sophomores. Then, there is one for juniors and seniors. I wouldn't know if that means that expectations would be different for them, but I would assume not. I think it means the same expectations but with fewer kids.

2. I can't say whether the expectations are realistic unless I know how many students are in the school and what kind of town it is because if it is a small town and there is not a lot of abuse and the kids are not needing alot of extra counseling then yes, the counselor could definetly handle the expectations in a school like that. When it comes to normal circumstances and regular school sizes, then no, the expectations are not realistic. I think that it is unrealistic for any school program to expect one counselor to handle such a job. My sons' Middle School has the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and they have only one school counselor because the new principal said there was no reason for the school to have three, like they had two years ago when my daughter was there. Each counselor was there for certain issues and depending on what the concern was, depended on who they went and seen. This worked great since there are alot of students in those three grades and it was too overwhelming for just one, they even have one nurse and she has an assistant. When someone gets overwhelmed then they do not do their job to the fullest and give each child the attention they deserve and then things get out of control.
